Shirley Cowling

1944 ~ 2021

Mrs. Shirley Donalda Cowling, beloved wife of Allan, passed away at St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice in Medicine Hat on Wednesday, June 30, 2021, at the age of 77 years. Along with Allan, Shirley will be lovingly remembered by their daughter, Jackie (Ken) Rath and their children, Brandon (Tanis) Moore, Derek (Meredith) Moore and Drew Moore; son, Bob (Cheryl) Cowling and their children, Jamie (Jordan) Allen, Megan Cowling, Kyle Winfield and Dion Aman; thirteen great-grandchildren; sister, Rose Lessard as well as her sister-in-law, Janice Casselman. She was predeceased by her parents, Ernest and Viola Casselman as well as her brother, Garry Casselman. Shirley was born on May 25, 1944, at Grace Hospital in Calgary, moved to Ottawa and then followed her parents to Morrisburg. Shirley then moved back to Medicine Hat where she met the love of her life, Allan. They were married on July 22, 1978. Over the years, she worked at Medicine Hat Police Service as well as DRES (central registry). Shirley’s life was centered around her family. She loved camping in the mountains with her grandchildren, Sunday suppers as well as playing cards with the kids and adults. Al was Shirley’s caregiver until she was admitted to the hospital on June 25, 2021. It was then that her family was given the heartbreaking news that Shirley had cancer. She is now free from the pain that she had suffered with for so long. The Celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Saturday, July 17, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. with a time of fellowship to follow thereafter in the Cook Southland Reception Facility.
