Rose leaves to cherish her memory her children, Dwayne (Lynda Niemans) Fettig, Del (Suellen Hallworth) Fettig, Heather (Greg) Mezei; grandchildren, Justin Mezei, Breanne Mezei & Simon (Stacey) Fettig. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Tony Fettig in 2002 and her son, Sherwin Fettig. She’s the sole survivor of her immediate family parents, John & Elizabeth Zacher; brother & sisters in-law, Milton (Eva), Joseph (Agnes), John (Phyllis), Peter (Elizabeth), George, Martin (Eleanor), and Wendell Zacher; sisters & brothers in-law, Irene (Matt) Shatz, Katie (Frank) Bernhart, Jennie (Joe) Roth, Betty (Joe) Krassman; survived by in-laws, Katherine Zacher, Helen Zacher, Elsie Fettig & Jack Fettig; as well.as numerous nieces, nephews & their families. Rose was born October 8, 1923 in Medicine Hat, raised on the farm in the Winnifred/Maleb areas. After her schooling she worked for the Murray Family and Medicine Hat Hospital Maternity Ward. Mom met the love of her life, Tony Fettig, in 1942, wed October 3, 1945 and shared a loving and steadfast marriage for 57 years. Together they developed a mixed farming operation south of Burdett. Mom had a green thumb, enjoyed her plants and flowers, keeping a large garden ensuring enough produce to preserve to carry us to the next year. There was plenty of hard work but Sundays were for attending Church, special dinners, laughter, singing, dancing and playing cards with family & friends. Our parents gifted each of us with music lessons. After evening meals Mom sat beside us listening closely as we practiced our lessons while Dad took over dish duty in the kitchen. Mom had a loving heart and we shared our home with foster children for 12 years. Rose & Tony sold the farm in 1975 retiring to Bow Island where Mom provided child care services. They enjoyed dancing with the Hat Swingers Square Dance
Club, with their greatest highlight a trip to Bermuda, where they danced in the ocean. Relocating to Medicine Hat they enjoyed shuffleboard with family and friends. They loved their grandchildren dearly, spoiling them on weekly visits indulging in Dad’s homemade icecream, learning Mom’s baking skills, assembling puzzles, coloring and eating smarties. Mom and Dad were their greatest cheerleaders, attending their sporting and school events at every opportunity. After Dad’s passing Mom became a resident at Cypress View taking pride in reviving the plants in the solarium. As her health declined Rose transferred to Meadow Ridge Seniors Village, looking forward to her daughter’s visits and dancing with her at the entertainment events. They danced every dance together, otherwise, as Mom said “it was a waste of good music!” The family is grateful for the loving care she received at Meadow Ridge during the final years of her life. Mom handled the challenges of her illness with grace & dignity, had a positive outlook on life, always finding the good. She loved her family dearly and had a strong faith, remembering the words to her prayers right until her last days. She was resilient, full of energy, and is a 25+ year breast cancer survivor. One of her enlightening sayings “If you don’t like something and can’t change it, you have to accept it if you want to be happy”. She always found a way to be happy! Mom’s loving memory will live on in our hearts. Prayers will be held at Saamis Memorial Funeral Chapel Friday May 7th from 7-9:00 pm. A private family celebration of Rose’s life will be held at Saamis Memorial Funeral Chapel on Saturday, May 8th at 10:00 am.
