Michael Edgar Blaine Wilson
April 15, 1965 ~ September 30, 2021
With great sadness we announce the passing of our husband, father, son, brother, nephew, cousin and good friend. His legacy is one of love, friendship, commitment and music. He leaves to mourn his loving wife, Jennifer; son, Cole and daughter, Elina. The loss of this well loved man is also deeply felt by his father, Ed Wilson; brother, Matt; sister-in-law, Jennifer; nephew, Sam; niece Abby; mother-in- law, Heather Sutherland as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins. Mike was predeceased by his mother, Betty Lou in 2017 and father-in-law, Bob Scory in 2020. A child of the 1960’s, Mike was born into music in Chilliwack, BC. His Dad and Mom were part of the folk music scene. From his first moments, he was a central part of life in the close-knit Newman household, where Grandma and Grandpa Newman and The Aunties: Lynda, Sandra, Pat and Dianne; delighted in his formative years. As a two year old in 1967, Mikey would sing along with the song ‘San Fransisco,’ already demonstrating his vocal abilities. When his brother Matt joined the family, a very special sibling bond was formed and another performer was added to the roster. Extended family played a big role in his life. Many excursions and family events with The Newman’s….Uncle Dick and Auntie Bonnie, Patrice and Peter…Uncle Ed, Auntie Grace, Sean, Drew and Duane, The McDowells.. Auntie Lynda, Jason and Jennifer and The Aunties. There were several family trips to Ontario to visit with Grandma Helen Wilson and Auntie Elizabeth. Mike spent his childhood years in Maillardville, Richmond and then Abbotsford. A football family, Mike loved the BC Lions. He and Matt enjoyed the rivalry of a long running pool of CFL fans. He spent his younger years playing lacrosse; coaching new players on the way. Mike also enjoyed a round of golf at any opportunity. During his high school years, academia took second place to music. Mike and Jen’s journey started on their very first date 31 years ago at a Vancouver Whitecaps game in Vancouver, B.C. They were married on October 10th, 1992 in Las Vegas. His two children, Cole and Elina were the lights of his life that completed the family. They enjoyed several years of making memories in the lower mainland and Shuswap before moving to Medicine Hat. You could not ask for a better father and husband. Mike’s life was devoted to his kids. During Cole’s football and basketball games you would find Mike actively supporting him on the sidelines and was always routing for Elina during her dance competitions. He was the kid’s biggest cheerleader. There is no bigger tragedy than the absence of a father and husband during life’s milestones. In Medicine Hat, Mike played with several bands and was a popular solo performer at venues around town. Many friendships were made along the way. With live events on hold, Mike started writing his own music. Sadly, the songs have been silenced. Over the years Mike has worked very hard for his family. From greens keeping, owning his own landscaping company in the Shuswap, the oil patch and to most recently working in the concrete industry where he will be greatly missed. Many are grieving the loss of this good man, knowing we will never again hear that laugh, that beautiful voice and feel the love of his supportive and generous spirit. As Jen, Cole and Elina deal with grief and imagining a future without Mike, plans for a Celebration of Life are on hold until 2022, when the family returns to BC. “… let your soul and spirit fly.. into the Mystic” Love you Babeba forever and always … until we meet again.
