Gordon Wilfred Depottie of Medicine Hat, beloved husband of Marguerite “Rita” Depottie, passed away on Wednesday, January 25th, 2017 at the age of 83 years. Gordon also leaves to cherish his memory his one son Dale (Karen) Depottie of Grand Prairie, Alberta; three granddaughters, Danielle, Sara and Erin. He was predeceased by his parents Wilfred and Edith Depottie and his brother Bob as well as his sister Geraldine. Born, raised and educated in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Gordon joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1952 and served at stations in Ontario, Quebec, France, Saskatchewan and Alberta for over 25 years. Gordon met his dear wife at a small radar station in northern Quebec in 1954 and they were married in Niagara Falls in 1955. Marguerite “Rita” followed Gordon faithfully until he retired with the rank of Captain in 1974. Gordon joined the Federal Public Service and managed two Metrology (science of measurement laboratories) at the Canadian Forces Base in Cold Lake, Alberta for a further fifteen years. His final retirement was in 1992. Gordon took up writing in 1997 and has had seven novels published. He has received numerous rewards in Alberta for his senior creative writing. Gordon will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. A family graveside service will be held in late spring at the Redcliff Cemetery.
