George Wayne Hope, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family on April 1st, 2024. Born on July 22, 1925, in Wayne, Alberta, to Jack and Mary Hope, he spent his childhood in the picturesque town of Redcliff, Alberta.
George started riding horse at the age of six where he found his love for equestrianism. In 1942, George bravely answered the call of duty and joined the military to serve his country during World War II. After the war, he returned home and married the love of his life, Ruth Irene Lee, on May 17, 1957. Together, they raised four children: Sandy (Lorne), Dwain (Jacquie), Lauren (Mervin), and Brent, who survive him. George was also blessed with nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by three siblings and one grandson.
Throughout his life, George was known for his unwavering dedication to his community. He volunteered tirelessly, particularly at Branch No. 6 Redcliff Legion, where his contributions left a lasting impact. After the war, he started his career as a bricklayer, which supported his dream of ranching. As a rancher, he poured his heart and soul into his livestock, finding solace and joy in the beauty of nature. He raised Ponies of America and loved his horses, sharing them with community kids so they could experience the joy of riding.
George will be remembered fondly as an amazing father, a devoted husband, a loving grandfather, and a good friend. His legacy of service, compassion, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
