Gene Pronyshyn
1944 ~ 2020
Gene Nicholas Pronyshyn, passed away peacefully in his recliner at Masterpiece Southland Meadows in Medicine Hat on Saturday, March 14, 2020, at the age of 75 years. If you didn’t know him by the name of Gene that’s because he was born in Germany on November 30, 1944, with the name Nicholas Pronyshyn. His mother, Anna Kozy, was working in Germany at the time of is birth. His father, Paul Pronyshyn made his way to Canada and Nick and his mother followed when he was four years old. Gene grew-up in Eastend, Saskatchewan with his mother; siblings, Tom Pronyshyn and Margie Williams (nee Pronyshyn) and their father, Nick Pronyshyn. Gene had two sons with Linda Pronyshyn (nee Korsberg): Bruce (Laurie) Pronyshyn and Garnet Pronyshyn; three grandchildren, Nicola (Channon), Sydney (Phillip) and Craig as well as one great-granddaughter, Reid Lynn. Gene was thrilled to see and spoil her with gifts from their trip to Walmart just one week before he passed. He married Marion ‘Bonnie’ Stephens in 2000 and her family thought very fondly of him. Gene was a smart man when it came to mechanics; working on many compressors and turbines in his career. Just a couple weeks before he passed, Gene was still playing mechanic, trying to fix his walker. The family will be forever grateful to the health care staff at Three Hills Hospital, Bow Island Health Centre Long-term Care, Masterpiece Southland Meadows as well as Dr. Van for all of their care over the years. They will all miss him. His weekly calls of, “bring me pie!” will forever be remembered as they have their own slice of pie. Gene’s life will be silently remembered by family and friends without the proceedings of a formal funeral service.
