Donna Marie Byers (Sadlemyer) of Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, age 83 years, left this Earth in the early hours of December 17th, 2025, after spending the day surrounded by her family. Donna was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan on July 6th, 1942, to her hardworking parents, George A. Sadlemyer and Sylvia E. Sadlemyer (North). She was the eldest of four children, Lorna Gooding, Richard Sadlemyer and Lee Sadlemyer. The family grew up on a small farm in Mossbank, Saskatchewan where they all contributed to sustaining themselves and their community through the growing of crops and the raising of meat, egg and dairy livestock. Anything extra that they had was sold or traded to others around them. It was a difficult way of life, but the memories she shared always made her smile. They truly lived in a little house on the prairie. At the tender age of 18, Donna decided to pursue an education as a certified nurses assistant (CNA), so she packed up, traveled to Swift Current to stay in residence while she went to school. It was there that she met a young man named, Donald Byers. Donna was 19 years old, and Don was 25 when they married December 16th, 1961. The first of 3 daughters, Tanya Nicole was born December 5th, 1962. Melody Dawn followed February 18th, 1964, and Barbara Joan arrived June 30th, 1966. Each was born in a different city or town, but Regina became a more permanent home shortly after Barbara’s birth. Both parents worked very hard, both in and out of the home, to support themselves and their new family and did a commendable job given what they had. Donna’s upbringing made her comfortable and happy living simply, where family was always her priority, so after their retirement, they traveled back to Maple Creek. For many years, she doted over her ever-expanding family and became known for her wonderful pies and jam jam cookies (especially the bell-shaped ones). This is where her heart lived. She loved her life and made sure we all knew how much she cared for all of us. She was genuinely a kind and playful soul. She is survived and missed by her siblings, Richard Sadlemyer (Marlene), Lorna Gooding (Brian), Lee Sadlemyer (Eileen); daughters, Tanya Lorenzo (Robert), Melody Trytten (Todd) and Barbara Genert (Wesley Wamboldt); six grandchildren, Lyndsey Carrier (Travis), Karla Genert, Wesley Sheldon, Kelly Broder (Tyree), Sydney Trytten and Samuel Colin; three neices, four nephews and thus far, eight beautiful great grandchildren. Donna is predeceased by her father, George, her mother, Sylvia and her husband, Donald. Donna will be cremated and, because springtime was her favorite season, a small, local remembrance will be held at a later date in Maple Creek. Condolences may be sent to condolences@saamis.com subject heading Donna Byers.
