Carol McNiven
1948 ~ 2020
It is with great sadness to announce that Carol Ann Mae McNiven passed away peacefully at the Riverview Care Centre in Medicine Hat on Monday, December 7, 2020, at the age of 72 years. Carol is survived by her loving husband, John Thomas McNiven; children, Wendy Egeland, Laura (Jeffrey) Gray and John (Chelsey) McNiven along with her grandchildren, Skyler McNiven-Berwick, Drew Egeland, Cassidy Egeland, Ashley Gray, Devonee Gray, Weston McNiven and Brinley McNiven as well as four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Milton (Carol) Severtson, Darlene (Dave) Beler and Sharon (Fred) Brade as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Carol was born on February 11, 1948, in Taber, Alberta but grew up in the Enchant area. She was quite athletic as a teenager and loved baseball. Carol met John (her honeybunny) at a dance party in Vauxhall when they were just 17. They got married in 1967 and lived and raised their family in Vauxhall. Carol had a zest for life and a great sense of humour. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and would do anything she could for them. Carol was a kind and generous person who enjoyed visiting and would often “drag” her children across the countryside to visit great-aunts, uncles and friends. She even taught some of her grandchildren how to drive (unbeknownst to their parents) but more importantly, she taught her family how to love and what it felt to be unconditionally loved. Even throughout her hardships, her family was always the most important aspect of her life. Carol will be forever missed and loved!
Through the Window
Every day I watch the trains
Through the window
As seasons pass, I count the cars
Through the window
The sun shines on my face, but it’s only
Through the window
I see my children. I hear their voices
Through the window
I blow them kisses, but I long for a hug, but you can’t hug
Through the window
I saw my great grandson for the first time
Through the window
I struggled to see his smile
Through the window
I am here; my heart, my life, my whole world is out there
My Lord, please, do not let my soul leave
Through the window
