Blanche Florence Ormiston, a long-time resident of AgeCare Valleyview in Medicine Hat, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 21, 2020, at the remarkable age of 101 years. Blanche was predeceased by her first husband, Maurice Richards and most recently her second husband, Gordon Ormiston in 2017. She was also predeceased by her son, Aubrey; daughter, Cecilia; granddaughter, Maelinda Richards; brothers, Bill, Victor, Maurice, George and Ronald; sisters, Elva, Kathleen, Mable, Marie and Maude all from Nova Scotia. Blanche leaves to cherish her memory: children, Joe (Freda) Walsh, Pat (Bill) Miller, Bert (Velma) Richards, Charlie (Margaret) Richards and Dave (Edwina) Richards; sister, Isabel; grandchildren, Wilena Eggen, Joann Patterson, Sherri Walsh, Stephen and Ron Miller, Karen Buroker, Jim, Clinton, Bryan and Betty Anne Richards, Helen, William and Charles Richards and Shawna Huxted; great-grandchildren, Nicole and Matthew Eggen, Mason and Megan Barrett, Jessie and Jasmine Miller, Michael, Shelby and Benjamin Buroker, Samantha, Trista and Parker Richards, Sarah and Carlton Richards, Kegan and Landin Richards, Wyatt and Ryder Halyung, Tiffany Richards, Jessica Norris and Mellina, Mathew and William Huxted; two great-great-grandsons, Alaric Norris and Liam Miller and four great-great-granddaughters, Molly and Rylynn Richards as well as Elania and Naiomi Taylor. Blanche was born in Tangier, Nova Scotia on February 9, 1919, to James Patrick Walsh and Jessie Catherine Monk. She had a love for fishing, clam digging on the eastern shore of Nova Scotia and she also loved a good feed of lobster. Blanche took joy in helping others, especially her grandchildren and people from within her community. She met many people through her work at the 1 & 21 Café north of Maple Creek, SK., and she will be dearly missed. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so starting one hour prior to the celebration of Blanche’s life which will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Friday, September 25, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. Anyone wishing to experience the chapel service via the live stream is encouraged to visit www.cooksouthland.com and click the video stream button on the homepage at service time. A time of fellowship will follow immediately after the chapel service in the Cook Southland Reception Facility with interment set to take place later in the day at 3:30 p.m. at the Consul Cemetery in Consul, Saskatchewan.
