Mr. Allan Duncan Munroe, beloved husband of Mrs. Gwen Munroe, passed away at the Masterpiece Southlands Meadows in Medicine Hat on Monday, April 20, 2020, at the age of 85 years. Allan was born in Cereal, Alberta, to Howard and Annie Munroe. He attended primary school in Cereal and later graduated from High School in Oyen. Allan went on to attend SAIT in Calgary, obtaining his Autobody certification and later his Bachelors of Education in Saskatoon at the University of Saskatchewan. Allan married the love of his life, Gwen Mary Alene Fizer at the United Church in Sibbald, Alberta on November 10, 1954. He worked for many years as an autobody repairman in Calgary; as a Head Instructor, Administrator, Teacher and Shop Director for the Moose Jaw Technical Institute. Allan was a gentle man who enjoyed being around people with a good conversation and a little humor on the side. He enjoyed playing the saxophone with various bands; was a long standing member of the Shriners and Masons participating in many Stampede parades; belonged to Toastmasters and was involved in many community activities in which he lived. Allan played football, hockey, golf and curling which helped him to stay active over the years. He had an admiration for cars and loved to tour in his motorhome with Gwen, wintering in California for many years together. Allan fondly recalls the 15 months spent in Accra, Ghana, West Africa as one of his most memorable occasions in his life. He garnered many achievements in his life but in particular the Potentate WaWa Shrine in Regina 1989, his BE from the University of Saskatchewan and being promoted to Shop Director with the Moose Jaw Technical Institute. Allan’s memory will be treasured in the hearts of his wife of 65 years, Gwen; daughter, Carrie (Norman) Hopkins; daughter-in-law, Peggy Munroe; grandchildren, James (Carly) Munroe, Sean Munroe (Jessica Anderson), Abbey Hopkins (Stefen Ursulan), Evan Hopkins; great-grandchildren, Emma Barton, Austin Barton, Ethan Munroe, Jaxson Munroe, Isla Munroe; sister-in-law, Kay Munroe as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Allan was predeceased by his son, Colin; parents, Howard and Annie and siblings, Ken, Connie and Mervin. The Celebration of Allan’s life will be held at a future date. Interment will follow at the Sibbald Cemetery at a later date. If friends so desire memorial tributes in Allan’s name may be made directly to the WaWa Shrine Club, 2065 Hamilton Street, Regina, SK.
