Police ask for public help finding tire slasher

The Medicine Hat Police Service is asking for the public’s help finding the person or people who slashed tires on multiple vehicles earlier this week.

Between the night hours of June third and the morning hours of June fourth, 12 vehicles had their tires slashed in Crescent Heights.

“It was a very general area in Crescent Heights but I think the best way to describe it is about a two block radius off of division avenue north,” says Sgt. Brian Bohrn with the Medicine Hat Police Service. “Ranging from around 11 street north to 20 street north.”

The Vandalism caused more than $1800 in damage, and the police don’t have any suspects at this time.

Police believe a small sharp object was used to slash the tires.

“It does appear that its some sort of a small sharp object, similar to knife maybe or a screw driver,” says Sgt. Bohrn.

Sgt. Bohrn says incidents like this become more common in the summer months.

“It can come with the summer weather, more people are out and about later at night, wandering the area, so tire slashing specifically are not something that’s common but certainly vehicle entries and just general damage throughout neighbours is typically increase in the summer months.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the Medicine Hat Police at (403) 529-8481 or submit a tip anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-22-8477
