MEDICINE HAT, AB — Medicine Hat police have resolved an incident at the Ace Crown Motel on 14th Street Southwest.

Officers had their guns drawn while responding to the incident, and the Armoured Vehicle was called in to assist officers.

At 5:50 p.m., police posted they had resolved the situation, and one person was arrested by police.

Police have since spoken to CHAT News and released more information on the incident.

Some information obtained by police led them to Ace Crown Motel in relation to a man who was wanted in a break and enter file, that’s currently being investigated by the major crimes section of the police service.

Police had some information that the man might be armed with a weapon, and as a result, the tactical section, K9 unit, Fire Service and EMS were called to scene.

“What we did is we initially started to do negotiations using our crisis negotiators, placed some calls into the room, there’s no way that the person in that room did not know that the police were there,” says Sgt. Stacey Kesler with the Medicine Hat Police Service. “They chose not to come out which forced our hand to eventually use some tactics to bring them out of the room.”

“Right now we’ve got three people, one in custody, two are being detained right now until we figure out their involvement in relation to this file.”

The Medicine Hat man who has been detained is well known to police and has a violent history.
