Federal government creates AI advisory panel

OTTAWA, ON. — The Federal Government has officially launched the Advisory Council on Artificial Intelligence.
The council was announced by Navdeep Bains, the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, during a G7 Meeting of digital ministers in Paris. The council, according to a release from the federal government, will advise the government on how to build on the current AI industry in Canada, identify opportunities for economic growth and ensure advancements in AI reflect Canadian values.
“Artificial intelligence is more than just a new product or service. It has the potential to help us solve some of the most difficult challenges we face, create jobs and growth across all industries, and improve the lives of all Canadians,” Bains said in a statement. “The advisory council will help us capitalize on Canada’s leadership in AI in ways that upholds Canadian values of inclusiveness and diversity so that all Canadians can participate in and benefit from the digital economy.”
