Sun Devils pick up first win in home-opener

May 5, 2019 | 12:03 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Since the 2019 Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League (RMLL) season opened last weekend, Noah Weimer of the Medicine Hat Junior B Sun Devils has been on a tear.

Weimer put home another four-goals last night, as the Sun Devils knocked off the Calgary Axemen, 9-6 at the Kinplex.

Not only did Medicine Hat (1-2-0) pick up their first win on home-turf, but they also handed Calgary (2-1-0) their first loss of the season.

The Axemen opened the scoring in this one, as Silas McAdam-Sasakamoose picked up the games first goal just over four-minutes in.

The Sun Devils’ Weimer though answered back in short order, tying the game just 26 seconds later.

From there, Medicine Hat kept the ball rolling.

In addition to Weimer’s goal, the Sun Devils would pick up another 3-goals in the first period, taking a 4-2 lead into the second.

Izaak Loran would continue the momentum for the home-side, netting his only goal of the game just 32 seconds into the middle-frame.

Goals from Loran, Weimer, Shawn Isberg and Aidan McLean in the second would put the Sun Devils up 8-5 after 40-minutes and they wouldn’t look back from there.

McLean would pick up his second of the night in the final period, securing a 9-6 win for the Sun Devils.

Now, the focus shifts to tonight, as Medicine Hat resets with a match-up against the High River Heat (2-0-0).

This will be the first game between the two-teams this year and surely will be a tough test for the Sun Devils.

The Heat opened their season against the Strathmore Venom with an impressive 16-5 win and followed that up by beating the Rockeyview Rage, 14-8.

Tonight’s game between the Sun Devils and Heat is scheduled for 4:30 at the Kinplex.
