EDMONTON, AB — An RCMP officer in the Wood Buffalo detachment is facing multiple charges following an investigation by the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) into a 2017 incident.

Constable Barnaby Seregelyi, 26, has been charged with dangerous driving, assault with a weapon, unlawful confinement and pointing a firearm.

The charges stem from an incident near Barrhead, Alberta on December 28, 2017. It is alleged Seregelyi was off-duty and driving his personal vehicle when he became involved in a driving dispute with another motorist. According to ASIRT, Seregelyi allegedly drove his vehicle dangerous, pointed a firearm at the female driver of the other vehicle and confined her roadside.

The incident was forwarded to ASIRT on February 2, 2018.

Seregelyi, according to a RCMP news release, has been with the RCMP for two-and-a-half years, and has been released on his own recognizance with multiple conditions. He has been suspended with pay.

The RCMP says once criminal charges are resolved in the court, his duty status will be reviewed.

Both ASIRT and RCMP are both declining to comment further, noting the case is before the court.
