Three from Lethbridge facing drug trafficking charges

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Three people from Lethbridge are facing multiple charges following an investigation into alleged methamphetamine trafficking last week.

According to a release from the Medicine Hat Police Service, officers received information about a drug trafficker from Lethbridge allegedly supplying methamphetamine to dealers in Medicine Hat on April 17. Investigators set up a deal, and arrested three people from Lethbridge on April 18.

Police seized approximately 14 ounces of methamphetamine, and also seized break in tools and a small calibre rifle. According to the release, the street value of the drugs seized is approximately $37,500.

Acting Staff Sgt. Mike Fischer with the Medicine Hat Police Service praised the officers for their work.

“We always want to do our job and making sure we’re keeping our community safe for our kids, so anytime we can take drugs of this magnitude off the street, its always a victory for us and the community,” he said.

Fischer adds methamphetamine continues to remain an issue for police in Medicine Hat.

“Meth is an absolute issue, and we’re going to do everything we can to get it off the street,” he said.

Johnathan Simonar, 36, has been charged with one count each of possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a controlled substance, possession of stolen property, possession of break in instruments, and trafficking by offer. He has also been charged with two counts of failure to comply with probation and five counts of breach of recognizance.

Deserai Scout, 23, has been charged with one count each of possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a controlled substance and possession of stolen property.

Justin Mohrman, 26, has been charged with one count each of possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a controlled substance, possession of stolen property and possession of a firearm contrary to a court order.

All three were scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday. Mohrman, who was remanded into custody following the arrest, had his case adjourned to April 30, while Simonar had his case adjourned to May 9.

Scout, who was released on a $4,000 no-cash recognizance, did not show up for her scheduled appearance, resulting in a warrant being issued for her arrest.
