Jamah Farah launches Liberal Party campaign

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Most of us are familiar with the term ‘it’s better late than never’ and that’s what Liberal Party candidate in Brooks – Medicine Hat, Jamah Farah, was saying today at his campaign launch.

“I’m feeling very excited,” explained Farah. “Since I started, I started very behind, but I’ve received a lot of encouragement. A lot of people say I can’t do it, but I’ve had a lot of help to succeed.”

With just over a week until the election, Farah feels he has a shot, due to the strong support from the immigrant community.

“A lot of them understand me because I’ve been down their road and know where they’re coming from.”

Farah says the immigrant population in both Brooks and Medicine Hat take a lot of slack and he wants to be there to mitigate the issue.

“Sometimes people think immigrants are taking their jobs, but we have more jobs than the immigrant community. Rather than work against one another, we have to work together as Canadians.”

After vigorously door-knocking and campaigning for several weeks, Farah said the issues for immigrants in the region are being overlooked.

“Biggest issues are child care. When they have low income jobs and families and they can’t make their child care. We need programs in place that can help them learn the language and get a job to pay things like day care. But, we lack all of that kind of service now.”

Farah said not only does he feel like the immigrant communities are supporting his cause, he also believes the battle between Rachel Notley and Jason Kenney at the leaders debate closed the gap for Liberal Party candidates across the province.

“I think Mr. Kahn did very good. A lot of what we saw was Kenney and Notley attacking one another. Togetherness is what we need. We don’t need to attack each other, we need to support one another. A lot of people see the Liberal Party now as a good alternative.”
