Kamaran working to make inroads for Alberta Liberals

The Walsh businessman is running under the Alberta Liberal Party banner in the Cypress-Medicine Hat riding. He is running against Drew Barnes (United Conservative Party), Peter Mueller (NDP) and Colette Smithers (Alberta Party).

“It’s been pretty exciting,” Kamaran said on Thursday. “I’m very excited about it, and am looking forward to meeting locals.”

His focus in the coming days is meeting more people in the riding to learn about the issues impacting them.

Kamaran owns a trucking company in addition to the Petro-Canada Station in the small town near the Saskatchewan-Alberta border.

The Alberta Liberal Party has not formed government since 1921. While the party has held Official Opposition status multiple times in its history, most recently in 2008, they slipped to third-party status in 2012. In the 2015 election, the party only won one seat, and lost official party status.

Kamaran acknowledges there has been a “backlash” to the party in the province, but praised the strength of the party, and says if elected, he would provide high-quality work for his constituents, even if the numbers aren’t there for the party.

The election will be held April 16.
