Notley tells Trudeau to fight for canola farmers in dispute with China

EDMONTON, AB. — Alberta Premier Rachel Notley is calling on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to solve the dispute with China over canola exports.

She says China’s decision to block the import of Canadian canola from Richardson International could hurt Alberta producers.

Richardson exports 30 per cent of Alberta canola.

Notley says Trudeau should get back to work and fight for canola farmers and the jobs they support.

She says Alberta workers stand to lose hundreds of millions of dollars and up to 3,000 jobs if the dispute is not resolved.

China says it is blocking some imports of Canadian canola due to fears of insect infestation, but some suggest is just the latest swipe against Ottawa’s decision to arrest a top Chinese tech executive.
