SASKATOON, SASK. — The last member of the Humboldt Broncos injured following last year’s deadly crash has been released from hospital.

The family of Morgan Gobeil released a statement Monday afternoon, announcing he is coming home after spending 333 days in hospital.

“We are thankful for the incredible team that has helped him in his recovery,” the statement reads. “To the wonderful doctors, nurses and support staff that work on the Rehabilitation Unit, thank you. The care, compassion, and attention you gave to Morgan is second to none.

“To Morgan’s therapy team — there are not words enough to express our appreciation for your dedication and commitment.  Not only did you continually find ways to engage our son in relearning the many tasks of everyday living, you taught us a thing or two along the way so that we can continue to help Morgan.”

Gobeil was injured after the team bus was struck by a semi-truck on April 6, 2018, killing 16 people on board, and injuring 13 others.

Although he has been released from hospital, there is still a long road ahead. The statement says Gobeil is still unable to speak or walk, but his family is hopeful with continued therapy, he will be able to do both once again.

Gobeil will continue outpatient care at Saskatoon City Hospital, the statement reads.
