CALGARY, AB – It could be a golden weekend for the Medicine Hat U16 Mud Hens, as they will be playing for a provincial ringette championship on Sunday.

The Mud Hens closed out the round-robin of the 2019 U16 ‘A’ Provincial Championships on Saturday afternoon, doubling up the Spruce Grove Riot by a 6-3 final to finish with a 3-0 record in Pool B.

That set up a semi-final meeting between the Mud Hens and BowView Hype on Sunday morning, which saw Medicine Hat fall behind by two goals twice.

With 1:47 left in regulation tied at 4-4, Amanda Robinson threw a pass to Ash Seale who netted the game-winner to keep the Mud Hens season alive.

Medicine Hat will now take on another undefeated club in the Calgary Northwest Nova in the gold medal game, which will be played at 5:20 pm on Sunday.

U19 Provincials

The Medicine Hat U19 Wild meanwhile wrapped up their season on Sunday afternoon after dropping their semi-final meeting earlier in the day.

After taking down the South Calgary Blaze 6-5 thanks to five goals from Lauren Klick, the Wild were matched up against a top-seeded Edmonton club in the semis.

The Wild were able to put four goals past the stingy Edmonton defence, but it was the number one seed moving onto the gold medal game by a 6-4 final.

Medicine Hat had a shot at a medal however facing the BowView Edge in the bronze medal contest on Sunday, but they fell 5-3 to finish fourth in the province in the U19 division.
