Canadian Abel takes bronze medal in three-metre at diving World Series
SAGAMIHARA, Japan — Canadian Jennifer Abel won the bronze medal in the women’s three-metre springboard final on Sunday at the FINA diving World Series while teammate Pamela Ware finished just off the podium in fourth place.
Abel nabbed the bronze on her last dive, jumping from fifth place into third, and scoring a total of 353.40 points to edge Ware by 0.15 points.
China’s Tingmao Shi won the gold medal with 382.05 points while Han Wang, also of China, took silver with 378.90.
“I knew that if I got a nine on the last dive I had at least a better chance to be on the podium,” said the 27-year-old Abel. “I was just thinking about myself and not the others, at the end it’s an individual sport.”
