Nassen to return from minor upper-body injury

MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat Tigers are getting back a key piece to their defensive core this weekend.

Linus Nassen has confirmed he will return to the lineup after nursing an upper-body injury this week. The 20-year-old didn’t dress in Wednesday’s loss to Saskatoon, and only played one shift in Portland on Sunday.

“I’m feeling better. I’m ready to be back for Friday’s game,” said Nassen. “We have a nice stretch here, three games in four days, and I’m very excited.”

The Swedish blue-liner says he hurt his upper-back/shoulder on a defensive play during last Saturday’s game in Seattle.

“I got cross-checked in Seattle. Then in my first shift in Portland I just felt something was wrong,” he continued. “We made the decision (ahead of Wednesday’s game) that I was not able to play, but I’m feeling way better now and I’m glad to be back.”

Defenceman Joel Craven also missed Wednesday’s game with an upper-body injury sustained from last weekend. He’s going through more testing and is listed as week-to-week.

In the wake of these two ailments, the Tigers have called up Damon Agyeman from the Airdrie CFR Bisons (Midget AAA) to fill a spot on the blueline.

Medicine Hat heads to Calgary on Friday to open a home-and-home series against the Hitmen, and currently sit one point back of the Edmonton Oil Kings for first place in the Central Division.
