CALGARY, AB – Connor Zeidell and his Medicine Hat rink will be playing for an Alberta U18 curling championship at home, winning the final berth at a qualifying bonspiel in Calgary.

Securing their spot in the ‘B’ bracket final on Sunday, the Zeidell rink got out to an early lead against the Maximilian Kobylnyk rink and were able to dispatch the Calgary club in six ends 8-2.

Zeidell was able to put up a three-spot in the opening end to take control of the match, before Kobylnyk came back with a single in the second end.

Both rinks traded singles in the third and fourth ends to keep Zeidell ahead by two points, before the Medicine Hat foursome exploded for three points in the fifth to jump ahead 7-2.

Zeidell stole another point in the sixth end to seal the victory, with both teams shaking hands shortly after.

It’s redemption for the Zeidell foursome, as they lost out in the ‘C’ bracket last year and failed to qualify for the provincial bonspiel.

The team of Zeidell, Cole Lewis, Bryson Helmle, and Kolby MacDonald will play for provincial gold on home ice, as the 2019 Curling Alberta U18 Provincial Championships will be held at the Medicine Hat Curling Club from March 14 to 17.
