Environment Canada issues freezing rain warning for region

MEDICINE HAT, AB — A freezing rain warning is in effect for Medicine Hat and the surrounding area.

The warning was issued shortly after 8:30 a.m. by Environment Canada, and includes Medicine Hat, Cypress County, the County of 40 Mile, the County of Newell and Special Area No. 2. The warning is also in place for the Brooks and Vulcan areas.

According to Environment Canada, a band of freezing rain has developed from northeast of Lethbridge towards Cereal. The rain is moving northeast this morning, and is expected to weaken.

Highways, roads, parking lots and walkways may become icy and slippery if the rain hits the region. Environment Canada is reminding residents to take extra care if driving or walking in affected areas.
