MEDICINE HAT, AB — Kin Coulee Park remains a favourite spot for hatters, attracting people in even the most extreme conditions.

It’s been a popular spot to let your dog run free off-leash, but that changes tomorrow.

As of January 1, 2019, all dogs in the park will need to be on-leash.

The province directed the city to protect the site, as it’s one of the largest First Nation camps in southeastern Alberta, and has a large amount of cultural material just below the dirt surface.

Dog owners will have to keep their pets on-leash, and on paths or run the risk of receiving a fine.

Some Medicine Hat dog owners are disappointed in the decision, and used the last day of 2018 to get out and enjoy the park.

“I do find it disappointing after all these years,” says Bob Moston. “But that’s the way life is so just keep on going.”

“I really wish he could go run,” says Nikolas Holland. “Because we have his little ball that we throw.”

On-leash signs have already been installed in the area.
