Hat High Kwahommies building off of last year’s provincials experience

MEDICINE HAT, AB — With only two Grade 12’s on the roster, you wouldn’t take the Hat High Kwahommies SV basketball team as a threat.

They lack what many other top teams have, experience and veteran-ship.

However, that’s hardly the case, according to head coach Jeff Harrold.

The senior girls squad is chalked full of Grade 11’s who bring provincial-level experience from hosting the ASAA Girls Basketball Championships last year.

That experience worked wonders for their development. The Kwahommies recently finished runner up at the St. Francis Xavier Tournament in Edmonton, which includes many of Alberta’s best high school teams.

Leadership isn’t an issue either. Grade 12 center Brooklyn Kaczynski says she has no issues in directing the large group of Grade 11’s, and works well alongside fellow Grade 12 Kyla Kearley.

Kaczynski explained to CHAT Sports’ Mitch Bach how her role has changed over her three years with the team, and what she hopes to accomplish in her final campaign at Hat High. Plus, coach Harrold gives his thoughts on the new team, and how they plan to use last year’s experience at provincials to their advantage this season.
