MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Perkins restaurant in Medicine Hat is hoping to reopen later this week following a small fire Sunday evening.

Firefighters were called to the restaurant at approximately 11 p.m. The fire started near a washing machine in the restaurant’s storage area.

Platoon Chief Tom Coffey says the fire was quickly put out with a fire extinguisher once crews arrived. There were no injuries, but Coffey noted there was some water damage near the washing machine, and smoke was present through the building.

CHAT News reached out to Perkins, who are currently cleaning and repairing the restaurant. A staff member says they hope to reopen by Wednesday or Thursday this week.
