Province to install lost pipeline revenue counter in Ottawa

EDMONTON, AB — The Alberta government is bringing its Keep Canada Working campaign to Ottawa.

During a news conference on Wednesday, Deron Bilous, Minister of Economic Development and Trade, revealed the province will be launching a real-time lost revenue counter, showing how much revenue has been lost across Canada since the Federal Court of Appeal ruled against the Trans Mountain Pipeline expansion on August 30.

The province estimates $6 billion in revenue has been lost across Canada since the expansion was halted.

“From Day 1, we’ve been fighting for Trans Mountain,” said Bilous in a statement. “Under Premier Rachel Notley’s leadership, more Canadians than ever before support this project because they know we shouldn’t be selling our products on the cheap. There’s too much at stake. We will keep the federal government’s feet to the fire so that this project isn’t delayed any further.”

The counter will be displayed digitally at locations near Parliament Hill, and will be supported by advertisements in various formats across Canada.

So far, the province has spent $10 million on the Keep Canada Working campaign.
