UPDATE: Kinplex reopened following ammonia leak

MEDICINE HAT, AB — A small ammonia leak briefly shut down the Kinplex Monday evening.

Firefighters were called to the rink at approximately 7 p.m. last night, after the building’s alarm went off, according to Platoon Chief Lance Purcell.

“There were people on the ice last night, and as soon as the leak was detected, the attendants in the building sounded the alarm and removed everybody out to a safe place and waited for us to arrive,” he said.

Purcell said there were no injuries, and a small leak was found in the compressor room area.

Repairs were completed on Tuesday, with regularly scheduled operations resuming.
