MHC narrows down candidates to fill president position

MEDICINE HAT, AB — The chair of the Medicine Hat College board of governors said they are close to selecting a new president after Dr. Denise Henning stepped down earlier this year.

Henning was the president for four years and announced in March she would be leaving to pursue other opportunities and attend to family matters.

Wayne Resch was announced as the acting president while a search firm began looking for possible candidates.

Chair Graham Kelly said three dozen applications were received and that list was narrowed down substantially.

Numerous interviews were done over the summer and the final three will be interviewed again before a selection is made by the end of next week.

Kelly said the board is looking for someone who can help lead the college forwards.

“We need to bring different groups together in the community and on campus,” he said. “We want somebody with a vision that includes the Brooks campus of the Medicine Hat College. We need somebody who’s very good at the PR function in order to increase our fundraising for various projects that the college is looking to put into effect.”

Once the board has made their decision, contract negotiations will begin.

Kelly hopes the next president is in place by the new year.
