Three charged after woman allegedly held against her will in a city home

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Medicine Hat police have charged three people after a woman was allegedly held at a home against her will.

According to a release from police, the woman attended a residence in the city’s Southeast at 9 p.m. on October 24th, where she was allegedly assaulted by two women with a blunt object and had her personal property taken from her. The woman was allegedly held against her will in the home through the night, with an attempt allegedly made to extort money from her before she would be released.

The woman was able to get free early the next morning and call police for help.

According to the Medicine Hat Police Service, the incident is allegedly drug related, and the victim and accused allegedly know each other. Three people, all from Medicine Hat, have been charged in connection with the incident, following a brief investigation.

Amanda Kaye, 36, is charged with robbery, unlawful confinement, extortion, assault with a weapon and failing to comply with court-ordered release conditions.

Theresa Babitzke, 53, has been charged with robbery, unlawful confinement, extortion, assault with a weapon, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of stolen property.

Matthew Babitzke, 29, has been charged with robbery, unlawful confinement and possession of stolen property.

All three are scheduled to appear in Medicine Hat provincial court on Tuesday.
