MEDICINE HAT, AB – Consistency was the name of the game for Canada’s newest collegiate golf champions, following a wild final round at CCAA Golf National Championships hosted by Medicine Hat College.

Laurent Desmarchais and Emily Romancew tore up the Desert Blume Golf Club course over four days of competition, putting the final touches on their championship performances on Friday evening.

Desmarchais from Boomerang d’André-Laurendeau out of Montreal shot a five-under, 68 on Friday to win the men’s championship by five strokes over Humber College’s Conner Watt.

Missing the cut at the 2018 Canadian Junior Boys Golf Championship in Medicine Hat over the summer, Desmarchais made up for it by shooting three rounds below par this week.

Not satisfied with one gold medal however, the Quebec golfer also took home top spot with his Boomerang club in the men’s team event.

It was a dominant performance from Romancew as well, as she won the women’s national title by six strokes over Shaye Leidenius from Red Deer College.

Romancew shot a one-over, 73 on Friday for her best round of the week after shooting three consecutive rounds of 75.

Hailing from Pierrefonds, Quebec and playing for the John Abbott Islanders, Romancew went wire-to-wire to win her first national title.

CHAT Sports was able to catch up with both Desmarchais and Romancew to discuss how it felt to be named a national champion.
