MEDICINE HAT, AB — Closing arguments are underway in the trial of a former Mountie charged with sexual assault.

Elliot Teed is charged with one count of sexual assault and two counts of breach of trust in connection with a trackstop near Bow Island in February 2015. He is alleged to have groped a woman, who cannot be named due to a publication ban, during a patdown at the checkstop. He has pleaded not guilty to all three charges.

The trial has been ongoing through the week at the Medicine Hat Court of Queen’s Bench.

Teed’s cross examination finished Thursday morning, and closing arguments began in the afternoon.

Crown lawyer Euan Gilmour acknowledged the woman’s testimony included inconsistencies, but said her facts about the alleged incident never changed.

Robb Beeman, Teed’s lawyer, defended Teed’s conduct during the search, asking why he would grope a woman in the presence of another police officer.

The judge-only trial is expected to finish Friday.
