MEDICINE HAT, AB — Competing at the national level is not just thrilling for the golfers at the CCAA National Championship, but also a highlight for Desert Blume Golf Club.

The championship has never been hosted in Alberta prior to this year, and Chris Paskin, director of golf at the course, says the feedback from golfers has been positive.

“A lot of these guys have never experienced links golf, let alone the coulees in the background here, it’s a little bit different,” he said. “A lot of them come from parkland style golf courses, so to get the true links style, you have to overseas or to the ocean areas. It’s truly special to have this in the prairies.”

Paskin says the course is in phenomenal shape, considering it was covered in snow at the start of the month.

“We’ve had numerous players and coach come up and say they’re the best greens they’ve played on all year,” he said.

Desert Blume has hosted numerous local, provincial and national tournaments in its history. Paskin says he is proud of the members and volunteers who helped make the event a success.

“I’ve got numerous members who have stepped up and donated their time for the week,” he said. “It helps show the Medicine Hat pride we have here in showcasing our city and golf course.”
