Maple Leafs waive Jordan Subban, reduce roster to 26 ahead of season opener

The Toronto Maple Leafs reduced their roster to 26 players on Sunday, with 13 forwards, nine defencemen and four goaltenders making the cut.

The Leafs loaned 13 players to the American Hockey League’s Toronto Marlies, including Jeremy Bracco, Rich Clune, Pierre Engvall and Colin Greening and placed five others on waivers: Adam Cracknell, Josh Jooris, Vincent LoVerde, Chris Mueller and Jordan Subban.

The other players sent to the AHL affiliate were Adam Brooks, Andreas Borgman, Emerson Clark, Carl Grundstrom, Timothy Liljegren, Mason Marchment, Trevor Moore, Calle Rosen and Dmytro Timashov.

The Edmonton Oilers placed forward Pontus Aberg on waivers and released defenceman Jakub Jerabek as they trimmed their roster to 25 players (two goaltenders, nine defencemen and 14 forwards).

The Ottawa Senators put goaltender Mike McKenna on waivers to reduce their roster to 25 players.

The Montreal Canadiens assigned goaltender Charlie Lindgren to their AHL affiliate, the Laval Rocket. The club also placed forwards Kenny Agostino and Michael Chaput on waivers to cut their roster down to 28 players (16 forwards, 10 defencemen and 2 goaltenders), including four injured players (Nicolas Deslauriers, Andrew Shaw, Shea Weber and David Schlemko).

The Calgary Flames placed defenceman Brett Kulak and forwards Anthony Peluso and Curtis Lazar on waivers.

The regular season begins Wednesday.
