MEDICINE HAT, AB — A 25-year-old man is facing multiple charges following a standoff with police early Friday morning.

According to a release from the Medicine Hat Police Service, officers responded to a complaint regarding alleged counterfeit money received by a food delivery driver in the 100 block of Third Street Northwest.

A 30-year-old woman was arrested and is facing charges of food fraud, providing counterfeit currency and outstanding warrants. Police also located a 25-year-old male on scene, who was barricaded in a detached garage. The man allegedly told police he had a gun and would kill anyone who entered the garage.

Police identified the man, noting he had 14 outstanding arrest warrants from the RCMP and was recently reported by RCMP to be in possession of firearms and ammunition.

The tactical team and crisis negotiators were called, and the Armoured Rescue Vehicle was deployed. The male surrendered to police approximately five hours later.

Police were still on the scene of the home on Friday, conducting warrants. A weapon was not found on scene during the arrest.

Acting Staff Sgt. Ernie Fischhofer with the Medicine Hat Police Service says safety of officers and the public remains a priority.

“It’s always our primary concern is ensuring our public and members are safe, especially when firearms are implied or involved,” he said. “There was no active rounds being fired or reported to be fire, but with the dialogue with the male suspect, it was implied he had firearms and he was going to use them.”

Brandon Aman is facing numerous charges in connection with the incident, including uttering threats. He is currently in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
