CALGARY, AB — The provincial government has announced it will be making a pilot project for post-production company funding permanent.

Ricardo Miranda, Minister of Culture and Tourism, announced on Tuesday he is committing $1.25 million in new funding to make the Post-Production, Visual Effects and Digital Animation grant permanent in Alberta.

“We saw tremendous success with the pilot program since introducing it last May, and I am pleased to be able to make it permanent,” Miranda said in a news release. “As part of our ongoing support for Alberta’s cultural industries, this grant will help diversify the economy, create more jobs and make life better for talented Albertans to follow their passions here at home.”

The funding is part of $2 million in investment in cultural industries. It’s part of the Capital Investment Tax Credit, which was announced in the 2018 budget.

The goal of the grant is to help attract more film, television and animation projects to Alberta, and keep professionals employed in the province.

According to a news release, there are 57 post-production companies in Alberta, with the majority being micro (employing one to four people) or small (employing up to 99 people).
