MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Monsignor McCoy/Eagle Butte Colts are building up their football program from the ground up.

The Tier 2 squad play in the Rangeland Football Conference, and head coach Adrian Czola says his focus for the season is not winning, but developing a respectable program at the school.

“It’s been a process,” said Adrian Czola, head coach of the Colts. “We’ve been rebuilding the past couple years. The leadership before I started was pretty poor on the team. So , we’re really focusing on changing the culture here, amking the school proud of the team, making the guys proud of themselves, and giving them a drive.”

Czola says he and the coaching staff are currently emphasizing the importance of commitment, teamwork and personal improvement.

“We’ve got a good coaching staff now, they’re really experienced, so that’s been helping us out,” he said. “The leadership this year is much better too, we’ve got close to 10 Grade 12s this year, so that definitely helps out a lot.”

The majority of the Colts’ roster is made up of Grade 10 students. Czola credits the junior football program will helping developing commitment and good habits for the players coming up.

The Colts return to action on September 28, battling the Crescent Heights High School Vikings.
