Cubs hire former netminder as goalie coach

MEDICINE HAT, AB — A former goaltender with the Medicine Hat Travelodge Cubs is joining the team in a coaching role.

The team announced on social media that Cole Schafer will be joining the team as a goaltending coach this season.

“We are very lucky to add a first class individual like Cole to our already amazing coaching staff,” the team wrote in a statement.

Schafer joined the Cubs in 2012, and played with the team until 2016, according to Elite Prospects.

During his first season with the team, he finished with a 3.09 goals against average and a .920 save percentage in 29 regular season games. He also played in nine playoff games that year, posting a .907 save percentage.

In his final season with the team, Schafer posted a .891 save percentage.
