Hearing scheduled at Court of Queen’s Bench regarding Canada Summer Jobs program
MEDICINE HAT, AB — A couple from Brooks asked the federal government for help, but were turned down over a controversial new rule.
On Wednesday afternoon, they’ll meet the government in court, claiming a lack of free speech is affecting their irrigation business.
According to the court challenge, William and Rhea-Lynne Anderson requested federal funding for a summer student from the Canada Summer Jobs program for their irrigation business. However, they were denied as they did not check a box on the application form, stating they agree with the Trudeau government’s stances on abortion and gender identity rights.
A hearing will take place at the Medicine Hat Court of Queen’s Bench at 1 p.m. The hearing will determine if the lawsuit will move forward. The Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms is arguing on behalf of the Andersons.
