Jason Kenney speaks in Medicine Hat

MEDICINE HAT, AB —The United Conservative Party held a fundraising event at Beveridge Landmark Events building that featured a speech from the party’s leader Jason Kenney.

In front of 175 people, Kenney spoke to supporters about the upcoming 2019 election and how Alberta’s government needs to start putting Alberta first.

MLA Drew Barnes, Cypress-Medicine Hat, introduced Kenney and Michaela Glasgo, UCP candidate for Brooks-Medicine Hat, was the Master of Ceremonies.

CHAT News spoke with Kenney before the dinner began and he says the reason he’s in Medicine Hat is to support Barnes and Glasgo.

“Drew’s one of the most senior and experienced members of the conservative caucus and Michaela is a great energetic young candidate. I think they’re going to make a dynamic duo to represent southeast Alberta,” said Kenney.

Kenney says they’re very confident but are staying humble ahead of the election.

He added the PC (Progressive Conservative) government became arrogant and the UCP’s are going to work hard to earn every vote.

“I think Albertans want a government focused on renewing the Alberta advantage, re-igniting our economy, turning Alberta into a job creation machine, scrapping the Carbon Tax, standing up for this province and fighting Justin Trudeau, the new democrats in B.C., and all these green organizations that are attacking our economy. I think that’s a platform that will resonate with people in Medicine Hat and southeast Alberta,” said Kenney.

When asked about the Carbon Tax, Kenney referred to it as the ‘biggest lie in Alberta political history’.

“All I can tell you is a future conservative government would scrap the Carbon Tax as the first bill of a new conservative government. Hopefully next spring,” said Kenney.

CHAT News will have more information regarding the event tomorrow at noon and at 5:30 p.m.
