A walk in the park with Mayor Clugston

MEDICINE HAT, AB — This afternoon Medicine Hat residents had a chance to take a walk with mayor Clugston.

Everyone gathered at the east beach area in Police Point Park for some drinks and watermelon before going for a stroll through the park.

Mayor Clugston chose the park because it’s an area that means a lot to him, and somewhere he goes for a walk everyday.

The event was in place of the Mayor’s New Year’s Day Levee that took place at city hall.

Clugston says he wanted to try something different in hopes that more people would make it out.

“It’s just more family friendly. The levee was dressed up, suits, and so it wasn’t really for kids,” said Clugston. “Now we’re hoping to attract families and of course it’s free.”

Clugston enjoys the opportunity to meet residents to hear some recommendations they have for the city.

“Really just a chance to make the mayor or politicians more accessible, in perhaps a setting where it’s more relaxed,” said Clugston. “I’ve had a few conversations with people that may not normally email me or pick up the phone and call.”

Clugston says depending on how the Saturday goes, he will consider hosting the walk there every year.
