Two children killed following tractor rollover near Taber

TABER, AB — Two children are dead following a collision near Taber on Sunday.

Taber/Vauxhall RCMP, along with EMS, the MD of Taber Fire Department and Community Peace Officers from the MD of Taber, responded to collision involving a tractor towing a trailer on Range Road 172 and Township Road 82. The collision took place near the Chin Reservoir at the bottom of a steep embankment near a sharp curve.

According to a news release from RCMP, the initial investigation shows a tractor pulling a flat deck trailer with occupants lost control while coming down a hill and rolled, causing the trailer to roll on the people riding on it. Two people on the trailer were able to get help.

A total of eight people were involved in the collision.

Two boys, aged 9 and 11, were located deceased at the scene. Two youths were taken to Taber hospital for treatment of minor injuries, while another person was flown by STARS Air Ambulance to foothills Hospital in Calgary, and is currently listed in serious condition. The remaining three individuals were not hurt in the collision.

A collision analyst attended the scene, and RCMP are waiting for a copy of the report. The investigation into the collision is ongoing.
