MEDICINE HAT, AB — Alberta Premier Rachel Notley will be making an announcement regarding transit during a stop in Medicine Hat on Wednesday.

A news release from the province says the premier “will announce new bus services under the Rural Transportation Pilot Program to support Medicine Hat, Lethbridge and more Alberta communities.”

The announcement will take place at 10:30 a.m. at the Medicine Hat Fleet Service building.

Earlier this month, Greyhound revealed it plans to discontinue passenger service in the Prairie provinces in the fall. During a meeting with premiers last week, all premiers agreed the issue requires a national response.

In June, the province announced four projects under the Pilot program have been approved in Camrose, Grande Prairie and Spirit River. Notley says she has asked Transportation Minister Brian Mason to expand the program.

Notley will also mark the grand opening of the new ambulatory care building at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital Wednesday afternoon.
