EDMONTON, AB — The Edmonton Prospects secured an extra-innings victory over the Medicine Hat Mavericks in dramatic fashion.

With two out in the 10th, Tony Olson sprung from second base on a pass-ball, and made it all the way home in a 7-6 victory at ReMax Field on Wednesday night. Mavericks catcher David Vilches was handed his sixth error of the summer on the game-ending play.

Colton Wright was a standout on offence for the Mavericks, helping erase multiple deficits by going 2/3 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored. Nolan Rattai, Jordan Drey, and Jaxson Hooge also collected a pair of hits for Medicine Hat.

It’s the Mavericks third loss in four games against the Prospects this season, falling to 30-7. They can earn redemption and a two-game split in Thursday’s rematch in Edmonton.

The struggle on defence was felt throughout the Mavericks line-up, amounting six errors to the Prospects clean slate. Edmonton was outhit 12-8, but never trailed in the contest.

Olson racked up a game-high four runs, and went 2/4 at the plate. Edmonton extends it’s win streak to six games with the victory, and hold onto third place in the WMBL’s Western Division.

The loss on Medicine Hat’s part doesn’t affect their first place position, remaining several games up on Okotoks along with guaranteed home-field advantage in the opening playoff round.

Thursday’s contest from ReMax Field is set for 7:05 p.m. before the Mavericks host the Brooks Bombers at Athletic Park on Friday.
