Stampede Royalty Competition runs this week

MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede Queen contest gets underway this week.

The competition, which runs throughout the week, begins with the horsemanship contest at the Medicine Hat Stampede Grandstand Wednesday night at 7 P.M.

Abby Perrett and Haley Schlenker will be competing to be named either Stampede Queen or Princess during the week. During tonight’s event, they will be judged on their ability to ride and handle a horse. The event is free to attend, and donations will be collected for the Medicine Hat and District Food Bank.

On Thursday, Perrett and Schlenker will compete in the public speaking competition, which begins at 6 p.m. at the Cypress Centre Auditorium. Tickets are $25/person for the dinner, and can be picked up at the Stampede office.

On Friday, the Cypress Centre auditorium will host a fun carnival at 5:30 p.m., with a Fashion Show beginning at 7 p.m. The event will be accepting donations for the Stampede Royalty Scholarship Fund.

On Saturday, a Stampede Kick Off Dance takes place at 8:30 p.m. at the Cypress Centre, with the crowning of the new Queen and Princess at 9:30 p.m. Admission is $5 at the door.
