MEDICINE HAT, AB — A 28-year-old woman from Dunmore was arrested Monday night and has been charged with impaired driving, after tearing through Crescent Heights.

Officers say she hit a fence and several parked cars before being stopped in a field a few blocks away.

Police say they were called to a hit and run at the Northgate Trailer Park just before 11 p.m.

A Hyundai Tucson drove into a fence. The driver tried to leave and hit a parked car, which slammed into a second vehicle and a front porch.

The driver left the trailer park and headed west along 20th Street NE.

Darren Crawford lives in the trailer park and jumped in his truck when he saw the vehicle speeding off.

He said he was just doing what he thought anyone would and was on the phone with 911, giving details about where the driver was and what was going on.

Crawford said he’s happy no one was hurt.

“It was pretty scary actually, just watching,” he said. “It’s almost like it’s happening in slow motion and you are watching the car going straight and then veering towards traffic, like the parked cars.”

Crawford followed the vehicle through Crescent Heights and watched as she drove through a barbed wire fence and came to a stop where police were able to arrest her.

Cst. Darren Holeha said he doesn’t want anyone chasing after suspects, no matter the crime.

“We don’t recommend to follow the people,” he said. “We appreciate the calls. We definitely want somebody to call in, let us know what they see and police will be dispatched to the area.”

Damage to the properties, including the vehicles, has been estimated at $17,000.
