RCMP confirms Redcliff man killed in collision near Cochrane

COCHRANE, AB – RCMP have confirmed a 61-year-old man from Redcliff was killed in a motor vehicle collision on the Trans-Canada Highway near Cochrane on Monday.

According to a news release posted on Alberta Police Reports, the collision happened at approximately 12:30 p.m. between Morley Road and Bears Hill overpass. The release says a sedan travelling east was struck by a semi truck that was also traveling east.

The male in the sedan died as a result of his injuries. RCMP will not be releasing the man’s name.

The driver of the semi was not injured.

The release adds a separate sedan and a truck pulling a trailer were also involved in the collision and sustained damage, but nobody in those vehicles were injured.

RCMP closed the section of highway and detoured drivers for almost eight hours as they investigated the scene. The highway was reopened shortly after 8 p.m.

The release says weather at the time of the collision was reported as heavy rain with hail in the area.

The cause and sequence of events from the collision are still being investigated.
