Canadian golfer Jaclyn Lee reaches semifinals at British Open Amateur

SOUTHPORT, England — Canadian golfer Jaclyn Lee is two wins away from capturing the Ladies’ British Open Amateur Championship.

The 21-year-old from Calgary posted two match-play victories on Friday to advance to the semifinals.

Lee rolled to a 6 and 5 win over Sara Kouskova of the Czech Republic in the round of 16 before notching a 2 and 1 win over Karen Fredgaard of Denmark in the quarterfinals.

Lee, who plays NCAA golf at Ohio State University, will face Leonie Harm of Germany in the semifinals on Saturday. The other semifinal pits Hollie Muse of England against American Stephanie Lau.

The final also goes on Saturday.

Marlene Stewart Streit was the last Canadian to win the Ladies’ British Open Amateur. She posted a 7-and-6 victory over Philomena Garvey in 1953.
